Last year my friend and I had a lot of fights, we dated (we are both girls) and I broke up with her. She said she loved me and that scared me, so I ignored her the whole summer. This year when school started we seemed to be friends again. I found out she had been diagnosed with serious depression and was suicidal. She said she was still in love with my friend Katie and me. But she was mostly over me. I tried to be there for her when Katie hurt her by rejecting her, but later I found out she spread my secrets around the whole school. I yelled and she ran off crying. She became so depressed she spent the next few months in rehab. We ignored each other. Today i tried to make things up. We talked a lot. I apologized. But still she isn't totally convinced I will be there for her. She says her doctors say I'm the root of her problems, but she hasn't told them the whole story. (like how she was raped when she was young and how katie broke her heart this year.) Plus I know she dramatized the parts about how mean I was to her. She is afraid I will hurt her again, but I really want to work things out. How do I convince her that I will be there for her?
p.s. sorry for the long story; I tried to summarize.
I'd just try to stay by her side. Don't feel like you have to constatly make up for what happened, just be her friend now. Let her know regection is somerging everone has to face, and shell find "the one" someday.
Jus be there for her, prove it to her. If she doesn't listen write her a letter and tell her you'll be there no matter what, maybe send her a present or something(:
